Export to Files on Your Computer

The Trial version of PointFuse lasts 15 days. You can request the ability to export a number of mesh models (whether to Autodesk BIM 360, Procore, or files on your PC), including up to 3,000 square feet of BIM exports. A full license of PointFuse gives you unlimited mesh exports and BIM exports.

Export models in a format that you can then import in other software, such as Teckla Structures, Revit, or ArchiCAD.

You can export the model currently in the viewport by selecting Export from the main menu and then Export or Batch Export, or you can right click in the Project Explorer and select Export or Batch Export.

The dialogs vary according to what you are exporting.

Export Single Mesh Model

Exporting a single mesh model means you can include and exclude particular groups and layers (see Classified Mesh to BIM Model).

  1. Before exporting, click Save on the toolbar.
  2. Display what you want to export in the viewport.
  3. Click Export , or select File > Export to open the Export dialog:

  1. In the File Name field, click the Browse button and navigate to the folder where you want to save the exported file.
    1. In the File Name field of the new dialog, specify a name for the exported file.
    2. Select a Save as Type from the dropdown list.

There are two IFC formats for exporting classified mesh models and BIM models:
IFC Absolute Positioning (Recommended): All geometry in the IFC output is positioned relative to a zero-based origin, according to their absolute position in space. This may cause issues if the geometry is located far from the origin.
IFC Relative Positioning: All geometry in the IFC output is positioned relative to the lower bound of all the classified mesh modelscontained in the classified mesh model group. This may cause issues when combining geometries from different or external output formats.
See Supported Export File Types

  1. Click Save to return to the main dialog, which now displays the path and name for the exported file.

  1. If exporting to DAE, FBX, OBJ, SKP, or X3D, you can select which texture to include (see Mesh Model Display).
If exporting to FBX and you select a texture, you can then choose whether to Embed Textures. If unchecked, textures will be created in a separate PNG file.
  2. Use the fields in the Scene section to specify whether to Merge Surfaces and to define the Coordinate System, the Up Axis, whether to recenter the Origin, and where the Bound should be in the export.
  3. By default, all groups and layers currently displayed in the viewport are checked, but you can change which are included in the export by checking or unchecking them in this dialog.

See Classified Mesh to BIM Model.

  1. Click OK to create the export file.
  2. You can open the export in a CAD or similar program, but not in PointFuse.

Export Single Classified Mesh Model

  1. Click Save on the toolbar.
  2. Display the classified mesh model and select Export .
  3. In the dialog, choose File Name, and optionally set Texture and Color.
  4. Use the fields in the Scene section to specify whether to Merge Surfaces and to define the Coordinate System, the Up Axis, whether to recenter the Origin, and where the Bound should be in the export.
  5. In the lower parts of the dialog, check and uncheck BIM Hierarchy stories and BIM Classification elements to determine exactly what will be exported.

  1. Click OK.

Batch Export

You need a Full license (not Trial) to do batch exports.

Batch export means you can export multiple files of the same type: mesh models or classified mesh models. However, if you want to select which groups and layers to include or exclude, export models individually.

The dialogs are very similar to those for exporting mesh models and classified mesh models.

  1. Before exporting, click Save on the toolbar.
  2. Select the models in the Project Explorer.
  3. Right click, and select Batch Export.
  4. You see one of the following dialogs:
  • Batch export mesh models:

  • Batch export classified mesh models:

  1. Select an Export Folder and an Export Type (instead of choosing a file name and type).
  2. Use the fields in the Scene section to specify whether to Merge Surfaces and to define the Coordinate System, the Up Axis, whether to recenter the Origin, and where the Bound should be in the export.
  3. For classified mesh models, check and uncheck BIM Hierarchy stories and BIM Classification elements to determine exactly what will be exported.
  1. Click OK to create the export files.
  2. You can open the exports in a CAD or similar program, but not in PointFuse.

Batch Export By Layer

You need a Full license (not Trial) to do batch export by layer.

Batch export by layer allows you to export a model to a chosen format, with a separate file created for each chosen layer.

  1. This only works for classified models.

  2. If a layer is in multiple hierarchy locations, then PointFuse will create individual layers per hierarchy.

  3. Choose Export To Separate Layers from the export option on the main menu bar.

  4. Choose the BIM Heirarchy and Classification layers.

  5. Each layer will be exported to a separate file.
